Queer IPU - Logo Design

Intro
For Queer IPU, a queer-feminist student initiative at the International Psychoanalytic University Berlin, I developed a conceptual wordmark combining visual clarity with political intention. The goal was to create an identity that functions within the institutional university context while making the initiative’s theoretical and activist stance visible. The logo is based on a typographic intervention rather than a symbolic illustration. The wordmark “QUEER IPU” is set in a stable, sans-serif typeface and then diagonally cut and slightly shifted. This formal disruption represents a moment of fracture and reassembly. The structure remains legible, but its internal order is altered. The cut introduces tension without dissolving clarity. Conceptually, the gesture reflects queer theory’s engagement with normativity: systems are not rejected entirely, but interrupted, questioned, and reorganized. The logo operates within institutional form while subtly destabilizing it. The result is a mark that feels precise and controlled, yet carries an embedded critique. It does not rely on decorative symbolism; instead, the meaning emerges from structural modification.
